By: , Posted on: September 20, 2019

We are delighted that three books from the Academic Press imprint received high commendation from the British Medical Association in its 2019 Book Awards. Huge congratulations to our Authors and Editors involved.

Established in 2012, the BMA Medical Book Awards is one of the most prestigious awards for medical books. This year, there were 128 winning books across 20 categories. Academic Press received High Commendation in the following categories:

Basic and Clinical Sciences – Leung and Qiao, Human Reproductive and Prenatal Genetics. This impactful book  offers cutting-edge research from a detailed molecular, cellular, and transnational perspective. It’s timeliness and international relevance make it one of the most comprehensive and useful books available on this topic. For a limited time you can access Chapter 1 – Developmental Genetics of the Male Reproductive System on ScienceDirect.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Page-Christians and Klein, Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT): Applied Genomics in Prenatal Screening and Diagnosis. This unique title is the first authoritative volume on cell-free NIPT methods. It offers a wide array of useful information for specialists, including the history of NIPT, laboratory techniques and bioinformatics, and NIPT screening and diagnostics for a wide range of disorders and birth defects. Full-color imagery enhances the excellent illustrations. You can access Chapter 2 – Understanding the Basics of NGS in the Context of NIPT on ScienceDirect.

Pathology – Naeim, Rao, Song and Phan, Atlas of Hematopathology: Morphology, Immunophenotype, Cytogenetics and Molecular Approaches, Second Edition. This book is a crucial resource for clinicians, fellows, and residents as well as practicing non-hematopathologists. Correct diagnosis and treatment often depends on a strong understanding of the molecular basis for the disease, and this book offers a wealth of information on this topic. With a user-friendly design, it’s invaluable for those in training as well as a quick reference guide for practicing professionals.
