Leading Experts of First Titles In New Book Series Tackle Cutting-Edge Topics in Photonics
We are thrilled to report on the progress of the book series Photonic Materials and Applications, announced last year, now with four volumes in development on important trends in photonics research led by teams of world-class experts.
This series is a collaboration between Elsevier and SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, where Elsevier serves as the publisher of the series, which is supported by the collaboration of leading members of the SPIE community.
The first titles in the series are in development targeting late 2022 or early 2023 publication and include:
- Metamaterials-by-Design Edited by Andrea Alù, Nader Engheta, Andrea Massa, Giacomo Oliveri
- Metal Halide Perovskites for Generation, Manipulation and Detection of Light Edited by Juan P. Martínez-Pastor, Pablo P. Boix, Guichuan Xing
- Quantum Photonics Edited by Yasuhiko Arakawa and Dieter Bimberg
- Neuromorphic Photonic Devices and Applications Edited by Min Gu, Elena Goi, Yangyundou Wang, Zhengfen Wan, Yibo Dong, Yuchao Zhang, Haoyi Yu

Dr. Lorenzo Pavesi, Professor at the University of Trento and a Fellow of SPIE, and Series Editor, says about the new volumes, “The editors who have joined our initiative represent a pool of top scientists and engineers who have responded enthusiastically to the idea of serving the community by providing volumes on leading-edge topics. In particular, the first volumes focus on technologies that will significantly help to tackle the needs of our society through material manipulation using novel concepts or the development of innovative optical computing paradigms based on quantum physics or brain-inspired platforms”.

Metamaterials-by-Design will review recent developments of refraction-index driven to application-oriented advanced artificial materials synthesis including key concepts, methodologies and future applications in microwaves to photonics.

Metal Halide Perovskites for Generation, Manipulation and Detection of Light brings together the physical basis of metal halide perovskites and their most important applications in the field of photonics, from photodetectors and photon sources to the highest advanced photonic concepts.

Quantum Photonics provides an important introduction to the field of quantum photonics including physics, materials, devices, and system applications.

Neuromorphic Photonic Devices and Applications is a critical reference on the recent advances in implementing neuromorphic models in photonic platforms and their applications.
Books in the series will be available through both Elsevier’s normal sales channels (including Science Direct) and the SPIE Digital Library, providing the widest possible access to key reference content to the interdisciplinary photonics community.

Engineering brings science and technology out of the lab and into the real world. Often without thinking about it, we engage every day with technology that is the product of careful, precise design and execution by engineers in electronics, optics, and communications; embedded systems; automotive, aerospace, and marine; mechanical; and many other disciplines. For decades, Elsevier has maintained and grown extensive collections in these and other cutting-edge areas, like biomechanics and nanotechnology, through our trusted imprints: Newnes, Academic Press, and Woodhead Publishing. In addition, our powerful online platforms like Knovel and Engineering Village help streamline research and development processes for users around the world.
