Impact Factors: Serials on the Rise!
With world-class subject expert Serial and Volume Editors commissioning content written by global leading researchers, Serials have had another sterling set of Impact Factor results during this year’s annual release.
Based on these solid foundations a significant number of Serials and Handbooks have for decades existed and flourished in tandem with their subject counterparts in journals (for example, Solid State Physics began in 1955); what distinguishes Serials is their offering a greater depth of detail, analysis and methodology than traditional review articles.
Impact Factor is a citation indicator released by Clarivate (formerly Thomson) on an annual basis, and is one established measure of a serial publication’s quality; the result of comparing the number of published articles to the number of citations received over a set [usually two year] period. It is by no means the only definitive metric; more recently, additional measurements of success have grown to provide a fuller picture and to inform strategic decision-making regarding volume content and author selection, including:
- Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP),
- Impact per Publication (IPP),
- SCImago Journal Rank (SJR)
- CiteScore
- PlumX Metrics data
A snapshot of the book series’ achievements this year include:
- 21 Serials are ranked in the first quartile of their respective categories;
- 12 Serials are in the top half of their Impact Factor categories;
- 35 Serials saw their Impact Factors increase in 2017;
- Advances in Experimental Social Psychology and Advances in Agronomy are both ranked 2nd in their categories (Psychology / Social and Agronomy, respectively);
- Advances in Experimental Social Psychology has the highest IF of 8.8;
- Advances in the Study of Behavior is ranked 4th in the category of Behavioral Sciences (increase from 26th in 2016), with an IF of 5.2;
