Combining Morphology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and the Treatment of Liver Diseases

When I was approached by Elsevier to create a book covering liver pathophysiology, I knew I wanted to combine the morphology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and the treatment of liver diseases into one place. I wanted to help basic and clinical scientists by providing them with both a background and a wide knowledge on the pathophysiology of liver diseases, the most important in vitro and in vivo models that mimic the human disease, and the most important, classical and modern therapies to face the different hepatic diseases in the clinical setting.

The result is a complete volume that uses an integral approach towards the role of free radicals in the pathogenesis of hepatic injury, and how their harmful effects may be abrogated using antioxidants. I called upon the most prominent authors in the field to make sure the book could be of the very best use to basic and clinical scientists and clinicians working in the biological sciences, especially those dedicated to the study and treatment of liver pathologies.

Liver Pathophysiology: Therapies and Antioxidants is a book that presents the most recent advances in normal and abnormal physiology of the liver, with a special focus on the role of oxidative stress in liver injury, provides experimental models to study drugs with beneficial effects on the liver and includes the most recent and modern treatments of hepatic diseases.

About the Author:

Dr. Pablo Muriel, Researcher and Professor, Cinvestav-IPN, Mexico City, Mexico has research experience in the pathophysiology and pharmacology of liver diseases including necrosis, fibrosis and cholestasis; the role of cytokines in liver diseases; and oxidative stress and its relation to liver disease. He has published over 100 articles (original and reviews) in addition to 7 book chapters on the liver and has also directed the thesis on dozens of postgraduate students in the same area over the last 30 years.
