Four Elsevier Titles Selected as 2019 Textbook Award Winners by the Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA)
We’re delighted to share that Elsevier received four prestigious Textbook Awards from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA). Three of the 2019 winners received the Textbook Excellence Awards (“Texty” awards) and the fourth title was honored with a William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award.
The Textbook Excellence Awards recognize the best new textbooks; books published in 2018 were eligible for the 2019 awards. Elsevier’s winning textbooks are:
- Biological Inorganic Chemistry: A New Introduction to Molecular Structure and Function, 3rd Edition by Robert Crichton. Offering a comprehensive exploration of the biochemical aspects of metals in living systems, this is the second Texty award given to this title—the second edition received one in 2013.
- Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach, 6th Edition by John Hennessy and David Patterson. Combining the fundamentals of good computer design with information on state-of-the-art technology, this title has been a staple of classrooms for more than 20 years.
- Fundamentals of Cognitive Neuroscience: A Beginner’s Guide, 2nd Edition by Nicole Gage and Bernard Baars. This title speaks directly to beginners in the field, illuminating the intricacies of this complicated topic in an accessible, step-by-step manner. For a limited time you can access Chapter 1 – A Framework for Mind and Brain on ScienceDirect.
The William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award recognizes textbooks which have maintained their excellence over time; eligible works must have remained in print for at least 15 years and continue to sell new copies. Elsevier received this award for:
- Fundamentals of Weed Science, 5th Edition by Robert Zimdahl. First published in 1993, this long-standing staple has been used by botany and agriculture students and researchers for more than 25 years. To celebrate, you can access Chapter 3 – Weed Classification on ScienceDirect.
